Meet the Team: Allison!

June 29, 2018

Hello, my name is Allison Street. I’m the new intern at WFSU Public Media for the Summer of 2018 and I am already thoroughly enjoying my time here with the Education and Engagement Team! First of all, the warm and friendly – yet productive and efficient! – crew here at the PBS station has made me feel like part of the family from my first day. Furthermore, I love that the work we do here at WFSU combines my favorite things: creativity, children, and learning!

A little bit about me, I am a 20-year-old student at Florida State University. Tallahassee, Florida is my hometown and I graduated with honors from Lincoln High School in 2015. I’m a total Francophile and I am conversationally fluent in French, which I studied in high school as well as college. I’m currently in FSU’s combined Art-Education program, where after my 5thyear I will receive a Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art and a Master’s degree in Education. Making and learning about art has been my favorite pastime since childhood. I’m experienced in a variety of artistic forms such as drawing, painting, ceramics, installation, digital art, 3-D printing, stained glass, and have even dabbled in woodworking. While art has consistently been my favorite hobby throughout life, I have always considered teaching to be my career path. I was thrilled when I realized that FSU offers a path that combines both of my interests into a profession that I would truly enjoy.

During high school, I spent summers volunteering and working as an assistant at the LeMoyne Center for the Visual Arts Summer Camp. I had experience working with children of all ages, from Pre-K to young adult, in a professional setting centered around art. This was an amazing learning experience for me because I was able to see first-hand what it would be like working with children and how they use the arts to expand and harness their imaginations. This made me realize that art education is my passion, and I am thankful for the chance to work with children here at WFSU and see other ways in which art and playful learning can help children grow mentally as well as emotionally! I am looking forward to my time at WFSU this summer and I admire the way PBS encourages children to be engaged and learn while they have fun.
