I’m Sophie Hochman, and I am the WFSU marketing intern for the 2026–2027 school year.
I’m from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and I’m a senior at Florida State University majoring in
Marketing and minoring in Advertising. I’ll be graduating in the spring, so I’m excited to make the
most of my final year at FSU. Through this internship, I hope to gain real-world, hands-on
experience in public media and learn more about how public media stations connect with their
communities. In the future, I aspire to work in public media and help ensure communities have
access to information that affects their everyday lives.

When I was younger, my brothers and I loved watching PBS Kids first thing in the morning. One
of our favorite shows was Sesame Street, especially Elmo and his friends. I also loved watching
Wild Kratts and Martha Speaks. Those shows bring back so many fond memories for me, which
is one of the main reasons I was so excited about the opportunity to work with WFSU.
I believe public media is such a valuable resource, especially today. With so much information
and misinformation out there, it is important for people to have reliable resources that can help
them understand what is happening in the world and in their own communities. I am very
thankful that my parents introduced me to PBS Kids when I was younger. Now that I am working
with WFSU, I have a new appreciation for how important it is for kids and families to know that
PBS and public media are there for them.

In the short time I have been at WFSU, the station has really opened my eyes to the
Tallahassee community. Before this internship, I was stuck in my own FSU bubble and didn’t
always venture out into the local community. WFSU has helped pop that bubble for me. I have
already had the opportunity to help with events, set up community activities, and write news
releases for local events that WFSU has hosted or participated in. These experiences have
been an eye-opener and have made me appreciate Tallahassee even more. There is something
special about this community, and I look forward to continuing to learn from and work with the
people who make it so great.

Outside of WFSU, I love being outside, especially when the weather is nice. I love going to the
beach, hiking, traveling, and going on runs. I’m also planning to run my second half marathon in
Tallahassee this spring! I always love spending time with my friends, going to local coffee shops,
and trying out restaurants. At FSU, I’m involved in a sorority, a marketing club, and other
marketing organizations.

I’m so excited to spend my final year at FSU working with WFSU, learning more about public
media, and becoming more connected to the Tallahassee community.

Hi!
