Davis was tried, convicted, and sentenced to death for the March 1987 murder of Joyce Ezell. His sentence was affirmed on appeal. Later, he challenged the validity of his conviction and sentence, and the trial court ordered a new sentencing. The State appeals, and Davis cross-appeals the denial of a new trial.
