Taurus manufactures and distributes firearms, and is facing more than 30 lawsuits by cities, states, and individuals attempting to recover damages allegedly caused by Taurus' weapons. Taurus contended that its insurers were required to defend these suits. The federal district court ruled they were not, and on appeal, the U.S. Eleventh District Court of Appeals certified the question to the Florida Supreme Court.
