Mr. Looney was convicted of the July 1997 murders of Melanie King and Robin Keith Spears, who were fatally shot during a home robbery. A jury voted 10-2 to recommend death sentences for each murder and he was condemned. Both the verdict and the sentence were upheld on direct appeal to this Court and Mr. Looney filed an appeal in the trial court, which was rejected. He challenges that rejection in this appeal, arguing his trial attorney failed to present relevant testimony that might have resulted in a sentence of life rather than death.
