State of Florida v. Kerrick Van Teamer
Mr. Van Teamer was arrested on drug charges after a traffic stop, which led to a temporary detention and a vehicle search. He argued the drugs found in his vehicle should not be used against him because the initial traffic stop was not reasonable. The trial court disagreed, and Mr. Van Teamer was convicted and sentenced to six years in prison. He appealed to the First District Court of Appeal, which agreed with him that the evidence should not have been allowed.
