Mr. Johnson was convicted of the first-degree murders of William Evans, Daryl Beasley, and Deputy Theron Burnham, who were fatally shot in 1981. His convictions were
overturned and he was retried a second time. He was again convicted and sentenced to death for all three murders. Those death sentences were vacated and he had a new
penalty hearing. After a jury voted 11-1 to recommend a death sentence for each murder, he was condemned to death a third time for all three murders. This is his direct
appeal of those death sentences.
