Mr. Morrison was convicted of the first-degree murder of 82-year-old Albert Dwelle, a disabled man who bled to death from two knife wounds to his throat in 1997. The jury voted unanimously to recommend a death sentence and the trial court condemned Mr. Morrison to death. This Court upheld his sentence on direct appeal and he filed a postconviction challenge in the trial court. The trial court concluded Mr. Morrison had ineffective counsel before and during his trial and granted him a new trial. This appeal followed.
