Mr. Guzman was twice convicted of the first-degree murder of David Colvin, who was fatally stabbed in 1991, but each conviction was overturned on appeal. He was convicted a third time and the jury voted 11-1 to recommend a death sentence. The trial court sentenced him to death and this is his direct appeal of that sentence.
