Mordenti was sentenced to death for slaying Thelma Royston in Hillsborough County as part of a contract murder allegedly arranged by Royston's husband. The husband committed suicide shortly after his arrest. The sentence was affirmed on appeal. Mordenti now challenges the validity of his sentence.
