In 2023, Zieler was convicted and sentenced to death for the 1990 first-degree murders of his 11-year-old and 32-year-old victims. Zieler was not identified as a suspect in the murders until 2016 when his DNA was linked to DNA obtained in the 1990 murder investigation. This is the direct appeal of Zieler’s convictions and sentences.
