Rogers was tried, convicted, and sentenced to death for the January 1982 murder of David Eugene Smith during the robbery of an Orlando Winn-Dixie store. He had acted as his own counsel. His sentence was affirmed on appeal. He now challenges the validity of both his conviction and death sentence.
