Florida A&M University is celebrating another athletic success. The women\u2019s indoor track and field team won its first Southwestern Athletic Conference<\/a> title Sunday.<\/p>\n

The Lady Rattlers’ walked out of Birmingham, Alabama, with 15 medals<\/a> and the SWAC Championship. FAMU beat 11 other schools including the defending SWAC champs, Alabama State.<\/p>\n

\n<\/div>\n<\/p>\n

FAMU\u2019s Nya Blocker and Breanna Brown-Marshall set SWAC championship records in both the 200-meter dash (23.24) and high jump (1.83 meters \/ 6′). Several of their teammates ran some of their best times all season. By the end of the 2-day meet, FAMU collected six gold, five silver, and four bronze medals.<\/p>\n

Sunday\u2019s win gave FAMU\u2019s director of Track & Field, Garfield Ellenwood II, his second SWAC title after he recently led the women’s cross-country team to the championship last October.<\/p>\n

The Rattlers will take a few weeks to recover before the final qualifying list for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships (March 8-9) is announced.<\/p>\n
