{"id":20296,"date":"2024-08-08T18:41:53","date_gmt":"2024-08-08T22:41:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wfsu.org\/local-routes\/?post_type=wfsu-news&#038;p=20296"},"modified":"2024-08-08T19:42:51","modified_gmt":"2024-08-08T23:42:51","slug":"florida-state-qb-uiagalelei-named-to-davey-obrien-watch-list","status":"publish","type":"wfsu-news","link":"https:\/\/wfsu.org\/local-routes\/wfsu-news\/florida-state-qb-uiagalelei-named-to-davey-obrien-watch-list\/","title":{"rendered":"Florida State QB Uiagalelei named to Davey O\u2019Brien watch list"},"content":{"rendered":"<!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('audio');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-20296-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/cpa.ds.npr.org\/s390\/audio\/2024\/08\/fsufootball808s.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/cpa.ds.npr.org\/s390\/audio\/2024\/08\/fsufootball808s.mp3\">https:\/\/cpa.ds.npr.org\/s390\/audio\/2024\/08\/fsufootball808s.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>Florida State University Quarterback <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/college-football\/player\/_\/id\/4429020\/dj-uiagalelei\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DJ Uiagalelei<\/a> earned his third preseason watch list honor when he was named to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.daveyobrienaward.com\/latest-news\/three-dozen-quarterbacks-named-to-davey-obrien-award-preseason-watch-list\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Davey O\u2019Brien Watch List<\/a> on Thursday, August 8.<\/p>\n<p>The Davey O\u2019Brien Foundation picks one quarterback at the end of every season, naming the player the best quarterback in the nation.<\/p>\n<p>But Uiagalelei wants to stay focused on being a good teammate.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"Enh\" data-align-center>\n<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor me, I just try to be the best teammate I can,&#8221; Uiagalelei told reporters after a July fall camp practice. &#8220;I want to show up each and every day being the same person\u2014consistent guy and teammate. Also, lead by example and be vocal when I can be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Only three players in FSU\u2019s history have won the Davey O\u2019 Brien Award: Charlie Ward in 1993, Chris Weinke in 2000 and Jameis Winston in 2013. They\u2019re all Heisman trophy winners and went on to have respectable professional careers after Florida State.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"Enh\" data-align-center>\n<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>As for Uiagalelei, he\u2019ll be debuting for the Noles this year.
