Duke Energy is reporting 9,000 power outages from Tallahassee to Port St. Joe. Tuesday\u2019s historic winter storm is to blame, as utility crews work to get customers\u2019 lights back on.<\/p>\n

Ana Gibbs is the spokesperson for Duke Energy. She told WFSU on Wednesday that crew members have traveled across Florida, working to get power restored.<\/p>\n

“These crews are turning the lights back on as safely and carefully as possible,” she said.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the icy roads have made it difficult for workers to get to some of the locations, as parts of the Panhandle received several inches of snow.<\/p>\n

Florida at one point, had 15,000 outages, according to Duke Energy<\/a>. That number is down to around 9,000\u2014with Franklin and Wakulla counties having most of the outages.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the most part, the power poles have not been impacted, and that’s important because replacing power poles takes a lot longer than putting back power lines. That is the good news in all of this,” Gibbs continued.<\/p>\n

Duke Energy expects power to be fully restored by Thursday morning. Until then, they\u2019ve urged their customers to continue monitoring their website and the Duke Energy app for updates. <\/a><\/p>\n
