Full enforcement of Tallahassee’s school zone speed detection cameras is going into effect.<\/p>\n

The automated cameras have already been active, but they’ve been issuing warnings for the past month. Now speeders should expect to get tickets.<\/p>\n

The Tallahassee Police Department said in a statement they have issued more than 2,500 warnings since the cameras started up again. Starting September 11, the automated cameras will start issuing $100 penalties.<\/p>\n

The cameras operate during the entire school day\u2014even when school zone lights aren’t flashing. That includes 30 minutes before school breakfast programs begin to 30 minutes after the final bell rings.<\/p>\n

Mayor John Dailey spoke in favor of them starting up again at the last city commission meeting.<\/p>\n

“Slow down. You’re in a school district. As the parent of kids that go into high school here and slow down. Schools are well marked. We know schools in session. Slow down,” he said.<\/p>\n

Drivers who go more than 10 miles over the limit should expect to receive a ticket in the mail. <\/p>\n
