For 43 years, Tallahassee’s Greek Food Festival has given the community a chance to celebrate Greek culture. Thousands of happily hungry people attended the event over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Greek music and dancing provided the atmosphere as tens of thousands of people packed the grounds of Holy Mother of God Greek Orthodox Church on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24-25.<\/p>\n

A small army of cooks and servers kept the baklava, gyros and delectable Greek pastries flowing, much to the delight of folks like former Florida Lt. Governor and incoming head of Florida TaxWatch, Jeff Kottkamp.<\/p>\n

“It’s heartwarming to see SO MANY people having a wonderful time with their families and friends. It’s something that we in our family look forward to every year!”<\/p>\n

At the same time, the church’s Presiding Priest, Father Robert O’Laughlin, said the festival is a great chance to acquaint the larger community with a venerable faith tradition.<\/p>\n

“Some of the things within the culture are intertwined with the church. So we’re able to share our faith and where we fit into the Christian world, the ancient Christian church that we are. So it’s a beautiful opportunity to share that.”<\/p>\n

The event is also an homage to the many Greek families who have been members of the Tallahassee community – often as restauranteurs – since the town’s earliest days. <\/p>\n
