Sustainable Tallahassee along with the City of Tallahassee and Leon County governments partnered to host the area’s Second Annual Electric Vehicle Expo on Saturday, Sept. 14.<\/p>\n

The event took place along the southern perimeter of the Village Square Shopping Center in Northeast Tallahassee, which is equipped with a total of 10 electric vehicle charging stations. Among the vehicles on display was a shiny new Tesla, which choregraphed its own demo, flashing its lights and flapping its gull-wing doors in time to the music from its hi-fi sound system. There were lots other electric cars to admire and even an electric-powered StartMetro bus. Tallahassee Mayor John Dailey called it the future.<\/p>\n

“We made the motion 2 years ago to expand the infrastructure for electric vehicles in our community,” he reminded the crowd.<\/p>\n

County Commissioner Bryan Deslodge cited personal experience.<\/p>\n

“Frankly, I drove a Tesla a couple of weeks ago and it’s the fastest thing I’ve ever been in,” he marvelled. “I’m all over these electric cars!” To which Mayor Dailey quipped, “Slow down, Deslodge!”<\/p>\n

Dailey also noted the city is about to bring its second forty-megawatt solar farm on line to help meet the future charging demands of more electric vehicles. <\/p>\n
