Florida State University Quarterback DJ Uiagalelei earned his third preseason watch list honor when he was named to the Davey O’Brien Watch List on Thursday, August 8.
The Davey O’Brien Foundation picks one quarterback at the end of every season, naming the player the best quarterback in the nation.
But Uiagalelei wants to stay focused on being a good teammate.
“For me, I just try to be the best teammate I can,” Uiagalelei told reporters after a July fall camp practice. “I want to show up each and every day being the same person—consistent guy and teammate. Also, lead by example and be vocal when I can be.”
Only three players in FSU’s history have won the Davey O’ Brien Award: Charlie Ward in 1993, Chris Weinke in 2000 and Jameis Winston in 2013. They’re all Heisman trophy winners and went on to have respectable professional careers after Florida State.
As for Uiagalelei, he’ll be debuting for the Noles this year. The Senior QB previously played at Clemson and Oregon State.
The Davey O’Brien Foundation will announce its Class of 2024 on October 29 and the winner will be announced during the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on December 12.
