Punk fans young and old celebrate the sounds and the attitude of a unique musical and cultural genre

Tallahassee tapped its punk music roots over the weekend during the Pioneers of Punk exhibit and celebration.

Places like The Bark and 621 Gallery experienced sonic overload as various bands performed throughout the day and into the evening hours. Many of the groups were reunions of original ensembles that once prowled the Tennessee Street strip and other local venues. But there were also some newer bands blasting out that high-energy magic. Jordan Conners and Rachel McDonald are among today’s crop of punk rockers.

“Oh, I kind of feel like punk’s eternal, you know. no matter the age…”

And indeed the many fans who showed up at the various venues seemed to relish recapturing so much youthful spirit. Although it seemed a lot more folks were nodding along, rather than slam-dancing as was typical of the good-old-days.
