Tallahassee’s Goodwood Museum and Gardens becomes a portal to the past this weekend

Tallahassee’s Goodwood Museum and Gardens will become a portal to a much earlier time this weekend. It’s an immersive experience called: “Time Travel into Florida, 1776.”
Members of the Theater With a Mission historical acting troupe greeted Thursday evening’s sneak preview crowd.

“Welcome to Florida in 1776! My name is John Moultrie. I’m the Lt. Governor of British East Florida,” proclaimed the troupe’s Ben Gunter by way of introduction.

Few people know more about the subject than historical writer Kathleen DeVal, whose book “Native Nations” won a Pulitzer Prize last year. She was on hand for the preview event and provided some helpful context.

“By the time of the American Revolution, this was a place that a lot of different people called home. Spanish people, British people, but also a diversity of native people who did not all agree with one another and line up on the same side in various wars.”

Goodwood will host a free weekend of time travel Friday, May 29 through Sunday, May 31.
