Animal Welfare Groups Host Fundraisers

Dogs were having their day and so were the cats as local animal welfare groups held fundraisers in Tallahassee on Saturday, Sept. 14.

The Humane Society of Leon County’s director Lisa Glunt said her Timberlane Road headquarters was turned into a “doggy washeteria.”

“Yeah, we’re getting the dogs in and out of here, getting their nails trimmed and the dogs washed; just a fun day!” she exclaimed.

More fun happened a few hours later at the Lake Ella American Legion. The For Cats’ Sake event was a giant animal art silent auction. Organizer Michelle Hartsfield said those who missed it can still make a difference.

“We have a PayPal account for Feline Advocates,” she said, “It’s FALCCats@gmail.com if you want to use that. You can also come by the Fat Cat Cafe and hang out with the kitties. Your entry fee is a donation to the rescue.”

And who knows? Cafe visitors could also wind up taking home a new furry friend.
