Restaurants deliver their products to customers; why not bookstores? One Tallahassee book seller is doing exactly that.

Sally Bradshaw, owner of Midtown Reader, said it began when her husband’s poultry-raising business dropped off as the pandemic surged. That meant his delivery vehicle, a 2011 Smart car, was sitting idle most days.

“They used to deliver the baby chicks to ship in the electric car to the Midway post office. And we wondered what would happen if we wrapped the car in Midtown Reader’s logo and use it as a bookmobile so we could expand our delivery visibility and service and that’s what we’ve done.”

Now Bradshaw said the surge in delivery demand is keeping the little car on the road almost constantly.

“We’re grateful to be in a community that cares so much about reading and supporting local businesses.”

Especially businesses that can bring the goods right to customers’ doors.
