Fathers’ Day eve saw a celebration of fatherhood and mentorships in Tallahassee. The benefit bike ride pumped several thousand dollars into programs that provide good male role models for area youngsters.
Among the pre-ride speakers was Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil, who shared his mentor group 100 Black Men’s saying about young men:
“What they see is what they’ll be.”
Dozens of riders of all ages were sent on their way by the Boys and Girls Club of the Big Bend drum line. That organization was among several benefiting from the event, said Director of Operations Kacy Dennis.
“It means a lot to the Boys and Girls Club of the Big Bend to be able to have our kids come out on Fathers’ Day and to have our organization sponsored from this event is huge! It means a lot to the kids.”
That group, along with the Omega Lamplighters, Willpower Innovation Network and Key Holder Billionaire received funding from the ride, which ran from Anita Favors Thompson Park to the St. Marks Trail and back.
