Even as the track of Hurricane Ian remained uncertain, Second Harvest of the Big Bend was gearing up to meet emergency food needs over a wide territory.
Second Harvest of the Big Bend serves an area from Gulf County in the west to Dixie County in the East. So, CEO Monique Ellsworth said the organization was preparing to stock storm shelters and other locations with emergency food.
“We have several packing events to put together some relief packs for families that will be emergency food. And prior to the storm making landfall, making sure we have snack kits and water available should shelters be in place.”
An effort that, she said, could use a bit of help.
“We’d love to have some volunteers out. So go to our website and sign up for some of our packing events that we have on-site today. And if you’re able, watching the storm and keeping an eye on our social media so people can amplify what we’re communicating out into the Big Bend.”
Ellsworth said Second Harvest will also provide food after the storm, especially to more remote counties where local resources are more limited.
