Florida State University’s baseball team has been eliminated from the College World Series.
The No. 8 Seminoles (49-17) entered Wednesday’s match as the 8th seed, but fell to top-ranked Tennessee (58-12) in a 7-2 blowout.
Tennessee scored three runs in the first inning on a fielder’s choice, a single and a failed pick off. The Vols added runs in the second, fourth and seventh inning before a ninth-inning solo home run capped the scoring.
“That walk out is very difficult,” expressed FSU head coach Link Jarret following the game. “Had a few of those balls landed differently or a couple feet one way or another, I think this would’ve been a much tighter game.”
The Noles finished the season with 49 total victories, a 26-win improvement from last season that culminated in a spot in the national semifinals for the first time since 2012. FSU’s 24 College World Series appearances is the third most in college baseball history.
The Volunteers will advance to the College World Series finals beginning Saturday.
