A line of Leon County residents and leaders stretched outside the Downtown Community Church Thursday morning as community members gathered to celebrate the life of Jimbo Jackson.
The county commissioner and school principal died Saturday from complications related to long-term COVID. He was 56.
Former Tallahassee state senator Bill Montford called Jackson “honorable.”
“Some receive that title by being elected to office like myself and some of my colleagues here today,” Montford said. “In Jimbo’s case, the name honorable refers to a man of unparalleled integrity and honesty and a man with the highest of moral values.”
Montford, who also served as a school principal and superintendent in Leon County, says he remembers watching Jackson grow up.
As a child, Jackson lived in the Fort Braden community. He later became principal of the Fort Braden school.
He was elected to the Leon County Commission in 2016.
