Emergency response teams from around the country are coming together to help deliver food and supplies to storm victims in Perry.

Convoy of Hope, a nonprofit humanitarian and disaster relief organization, set up a free drive-thru distribution center at the old West Fraser paper mill on Saturday.

The group traveled from Missouri to Perry, after Hurricane Helene made landfall as a Category 4 storm Thursday night.

“We’re giving each car loaded bags of groceries of ready-to-eat meals,” Convoy spokesman Ethan Forhetz said.

“We’re getting them cases of water, sports drinks, hygiene items that they may need. All those things that you and I take for granted on a daily basis,”

Convoy of Hope wasn’t the only out of town group to assist with Saturday’s recovery efforts.

The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office was joined by authorities from Bay and Polk counties, as well as the American Red Cross, which is headquartered in Washington D.C.
