Since 2015, Tallahassee’s Word of South Festival has given thousands of local residents and out-of-town visitors a unique mix of literature and music. Nearly ideal weather enhanced the festive atmosphere at this year’s Cascades Park event over the weekend.
Friday night’s headline music act was the Violent Femmes, joined by the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra. The performance included the group’s first big hit from their inaugural album in 1983, “Blister in the Sun.”
On Saturday evening, Tallahassee’s own Master of Funk, the incomparable George Clinton, took the stage of the Adderley Amphitheatre. That concert traced a career that’s spanned more than 60 years.
Meanwhile, dozens of other local, regional and national writers and musicians showcased their creative talents throughout the weekend.
