On Tuesday, long-time Rattlers head coach Jamey Shouppe talked with WFSU about his favorite moments from the 2023 season and what’s in store for the men in the orange and green.

“At the end of the day, I been coaching college baseball for 31, 32 years for me,” said Shouppe. “I been in the NCAA for a long time but especially at the latter part of my career, it’s so fun to see these kids realize that they have accomplished a goal.”

FAMU’s high-powered offense took the team to the top of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, winning the SWAC title. It’s also been named the Black College Nines “Large School” National Champion for the first time in program history. It’s something Shouppe says he wants to build on.

“It’s just good to be a Rattler right now. Our guys are smiling, its been a good season but all that is forgotten when the fall [next season] rolls around. It’s time to prepare and get ready for the season and hopefully being able to again have this conversation,” said Shouppe.

The Rattlers had four players end the season with double digit home runs, including Senior Ty Hanchey, who was the first player in school history to be named to an NCAA Regional All-Tournament team following his performance in the 2023 NCAA Gainesville Regional.
