Florida A&M University is parting ways with the Rattlers’ long time head men’s basketball coach Robert McCullum.

FAMU’s Vice President and Director of Athletics Tiffani-Dawn Sykes broke the news Wednesday.

She wrote in a release that McCullum’s contract, which expires June 30th, will not be renewed. She did not give a reason or go into specifics on why the school is parting ways with the coach, however one could imagine it’s over a lack of success on the court.

“He has led this program with integrity and has positively influenced countless young men, both players and coaches,” said Sykes. “We wish Coach McCullum and his family the very best in the future.”

Since McCullum took over the program in 2017, the Rattlers have posted a record of 67 wins and 133 losses. His most recent accolade came in 2021, when he led his team to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament. That year, McCullum won Coach of the Year and finished 8-12.

On Wednesday, FAMU’s Sykes thanked McCullum for his dedication towards building the program. She says now the University will be launching a search committee to find the school’s next head coach.
