A Florida State University football great has passed away. Quarterback Steve Tensi died last Friday, March 15, at the age of 81.
The 6-foot-5 quarterback from Ohio started for the Noles for three seasons, dating back to 1962. He and Bill Peterson, who was his coach at the time, broke records together.
Tensi threw for 33 touchdowns and finished his career with the Noles with 3,000 passing yards. He still owns the record for the most touchdown passes thrown in a game in Gator Bowl history.
Tensi’s arm carried him into the pros. He played six years with the San Diego Chargers and the Denver Broncos. He was inducted into FSU’s Hall of Fame in 1981.
He died in Boone, North Carolina, where he and his wife lived.
