The Leon County Commission honored funk musician George Clinton of Parliament-Funkadelic with a proclamation at last night’s meeting.
Clinton has already been honored by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. And he received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019. But he was emotional at the recognition from the place he calls home.
“I was already in love with the place,” he said. “Now, after this, y’all ain’t going to be able to get rid of me. Thank you. Thank everybody.”
Attorney Ben Crump was among those who accompanied Clinton to the podium and praised him…
“…because your music brings people together from all walks of life. I mean…if ever there was a time for us to have one nation under a groove, it is now! So, George Clinton, we thank you in Killearn for making Tallahassee-Leon County home.” :23 GeorgeClinton0320C1
All the county commissioners gathered around Clinton as he received the proclamation and competed to praise him.
