Tallahassee’s Lake Ella American Legion Hall was filled with feline fans on Saturday.
“We’re here today for ‘For Cats’ Sake.’ It’s our annual art auction and biggest fund raiser of the year. It’s a silent art auction in which people bid on art items donated by local, national and international artists. And all of the proceeds to back to benefit the cat rescue.”
Sara Jones, vice president of Feline Advocates of Leon County said the need is especially great now because so many of the animal shelters and feline foster homes in Southwest Florida had been put out of commission by Hurricane Ian.
“With the situation going on down there a lot of rescues locally in Tallahasee have stepped up to take in cats. Meanwhile we’re still in the middle of our kitten season here. Our rescue takes in over 300 cats every year.”
Hundreds of people took part in the silent auction on Saturday. Feline Advocates of Leon County was still calculating the final donation tally as this story was being posted.
