Tallahassee’s pre-professional women’s soccer team got its first win in franchise history Wednesday. The Tallahassee (TLH) Reckoning played its debut match Wednesday against Brooke House Academy.

After the 2-0 victory, Head Coach Staci Wilson thanked her players for their hard work.

“I really think we came out and showed what female soccer is capable of, what the original that the city of Tallahassee has. I know they have high expectations with the university right here and the dynasty that they have going. So yeah, we expect to live up to that.”

The Reckoning announced its arrival in the USL W league in June 2023. Ashlee Fontes-Comber, a former Florida State University soccer player and Tallahassee Reckoning’s founder, said the idea started from wanting to see young women fulfill their dreams.

“To give our local athletes the best chance, we need booster-like support, sponsors, volunteers, interns, and to pack the freaking stands,” Fontes-Comber said during last year’s logo unveiling ceremony. “Together with full support, we will surround our girls with the critical women’s soccer specific development resources they need.”

Reckoning also offers training for middle and high school athletes in the area. Former Lincoln Trojan Paige Churchill spoke with WFSU after Wednesday’s debut about returning back to the Capital City, and playing for Reckoning.

“It feels really good to be back in Tallahassee and on the home field, back with all my friends and teammates,” Churchill said. “We have a lot of potential and it’s just exciting to be out there and make some history happen. A Historical moment for the first goal and first win.”

Reckoning joins the men’s Tallahassee Soccer Club, as the second pre-pro team in the area. The Reckoning will have 5 more home games this year. The next one comes this Sunday at 7 p.m. at Gene Cox Stadium against Florida Elite.
