The sights, sounds and savors of the Caribbean come to Tallahassee this Saturday. The revitalized Caribe Festival will feature some new attractions after taking off last year due to the pandemic.
The human dervish who is the lead organizer for this cultural extravaganza is Lilli Forbes. She said Caribe 2022-”A Festival of Colors” features performance talent from near and far.
“We’ve brought together a wonderful selection of people from all over Tallahassee. We also have some international artists this year.”
Many of these hailing from the many islands that inhabit the vast Caribbean basin.
“We have someone from St. Croix, the U.S. Virgin Islands; the Forgotten Coast Dancers from Franklin and Gulf counties; we have an award-winning artist all the way from Jamaica, Breanna Jade. Then we have a local artist Elio Delgado, but he’s from Cuba. A wonderful lineup and I’m really excited.”
There are many more performers, along with a new musical genre for the first time this year.
“Expressing music from the various African diasporas and Caribbean diasporas. So we’re having Djs from Jamaica, representing Haiti, St. Maarten. And then we invited a DJ all the way from Miami,Florida. ‘Stan Man’ we call him from Large Radio coming up from South Florida.”
All taking place along FAMU Way, just south of Railroad Square, which is yet another reason for folks to come out.
“Railroad Square has some great places for them to visit. And while they listen to the music, we do have some vendors who will be there as well: Tropical Eats, Cakes by Liz and then the Sneauxballs!”
Caribe 2022 – A Festival of Colors takes place this Saturday from noon until 6 p.m.
