A real celebration of Florida’s many cultures happens an hour-and-a-half east of Tallahassee this coming weekend. The event will also be a rare showcase for many of the Capital City’s best musicians.
This is the Florida Folk Festival’s 72nd year, making it the longest continuously run state folk festival in America. Among those well-known hometown performers is Del Suggs. He’s been a regular fixture at the Florida Folk Festival for more than half of its existence, playing there for the first time in 1984. He said he’ll be joined by many other well-known local artists.
“Some folks you probably haven’t seen in a while, like the New 76ers, Frank Lindemuth, the fabulous Mimi Hearn and the Hearndogs will be there. Lily Forbes and the Funky ‘Taters are always a riot and great to see on stage. And our good friends The Currys who were at Word of South and perennial favorite Grant Peeples.”
There will also be many nationally known acts, performing in a wide variety of musical styles. The festival celebrates the many national cultures now represented by Florda residents.
