The stage version of “Hairspray” heads into its final performances at Leon High School

Thursday, June 27 was opening night at Tallahassee’s Leon High School last (Thursday) evening for the initial performance of the musical “Hairspray.” Before the curtain went up, the school’s Choral Director Tabitha Peck was racing around like a woman possessed.

“We’re very excited! We’re excited to do this for people! There is so much energy in the dancing and each one of the leads is going to knock your socks off: when they sing, when they dance, and their acting. Even the moments that aren’t the featured moments, things happening around…it’s going to blow you away! The music is really incredible, well written and well performed.”

The stage version of “Hairspray,” is based on John Water’s 1988 cult-classic movie of the same name. Set in the Baltimore of the 1960s, the story is full of unforgettable characters, songs and dance numbers. And Peck, says there are still opportunities to enjoy it.

“The show continues Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (July 3-6.)”
