The Kimley-Horn office parking lot in northeast Tallahassee looked like an open-air furniture factory the morning of Saturday, April 11. It was the latest – and largest – bed build by the Sleep in Heavenly Peace charitable organization.
Among the one-hundred-plus bed building volunteers was Jennifer Santos.
“I know there’s a need and I’ve been blessed so if I have the ability to bless someone else, I think that’s really important.”
Since starting 8 years ago, Sleep in Heavenly Peace has built more than 4,000 beds for kids who don’t have any. Tallahassee Chapter President John Cousins says they recently opened bed building hubs in Wakulla and Gadsden counties.
“We could be doing more if we had more people behind the scenes to make it all happen. Because this just didn’t happen. We were all here at 7 o’clock this morning to make it all happen.”
Saturday’s build produced and distributed 50 bunk beds. Enough to give 100 local kids a bed to call their own.
