Weather update: Wakulla County officials are out assessing Wednesday’s storm damage

A Wednesday night storm has brought down trees and caused flooding to several counties across the Florida Panhandle.

Wakulla County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Lieutenant Jeffrey Yarbrough told WFSU Thursday, the Sheriff’s Office received calls of downed power lines and several trees blocking entrances to neighborhoods.

“During the night we had a high tide coincided with a lot of wind and rain,” said Yarbrough. “We saw some slight storm surge but nothing that’s any real concern.”

Wakulla’s Sheriff’s Office expects to have most, if not all, the debris and power lines cleared off the roadways by this evening. The county missed the brunt of the storm; however, Wakulla’s Emergency Management team is out working to ensure residents are kept safe.

“Especially compared to Jefferson and Leon counties, we faired pretty well,” said WCSO’s Yarbrough. “You know probably by lunch time, we should have most of the powerlines out of the roads. I don’t think we have any reports of any damaged homes.”
