Loggerhead sea turtles are no strangers to the Big Bend. Each year, female loggerheads come ashore on our beaches to lay eggs that will, hopefully, hatch another generation of these large marine creatures.

But the loggerhead is an endangered species and the loss of one is a setback to those working to restore the population of these turtles.

Here’s the story of one loggerhead that – thanks to some fishermen and a local marine lab – got a new lease on life and captured the hearts of people all around our area.
