Florida A&M University’s Marching 100 left for Paris this weekend. The band will perform Thursday at the Louvre Museum in the Louis Vuitton Men’s Paris Fashion Show.

Thirty-five band members and about a dozen staff members are embarking on the trip. It’s the second time the Marching 100 has traveled to Paris. The group performed in 1989 in the Bastille Day parade to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution. Current Band Director Shelby Chipman was one of the students performing that day.

“It’s a credit to our band students and to our institution to do everything to promote the FAMU band,” Chipman said in a press release from the university.

One of the students heading to Paris this time is Drum Major Jarvis Rittman, a senior health science student from Quincy, Florida.”

“I’m honored to be one of the members selected, not only to represent Florida A&M University, but also America at the Louis Vuitton Fashion Show,” Rittman said in the release. “It’s a new experience for me being from Quincy, Florida. It’s very new to me.”

The band is scheduled to rehearse Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in the lead up to the Thursday show. The group will return to Tallahassee Friday.
