KCCI looking for community input on Tallahassee’s coming Bicentennial Park

One of the projects for Tallahassee’s bicentennial year is a new city park, to be located north and east of City Hall. The design and plan for the park are in the works, and the team behind them wants public input.

The Knight Creative Communities Institute is designing the park, with the idea of transforming the area next to City Hall along Jefferson Street.

Jane Johnson is a member of KCCI’s volunteer team, which is seeking input through a Community Input Survey.

“We want to gain input from the community about what’s important to them so that we can do our best to incorporate what people want instead of coming up with what we think is a good idea and try to superimpose it on the space,” she said.

Johnson says the team hopes the park will be used as a place for people to gather, perhaps for a meal or a class.

“What do they want in a park? We don’t want it to just be built and then admire it,” she said. “We really want it to be used. So, we want it to be a place. We want people to say, ‘Let’s go to the bicentennial park and have lunch’ or ‘Why don’t we meet at the park?’ Or we’d like the Senior Center to think about holding some classes there – history classes or even art classes.”
