WFSU In the Grass, On the Reef

We paddle with Green Guides George Weymouth, Jim Dulock, and Cynthia Paulson down the remote Wacissa River. Even though we didn't find any limpkins, we did see a flock of ibis frolick by the water lettuce and wild rice at the river's edge. We saw and heard many other birds as well, and used an underwater camera to explore the 50 foot deep Big Blue Spring.

George, an expert bird man and renowned nature artist, offers his explanation as to why limpkins disappeared in nearby Wakulla Springs. We had people write to refute his take on this, which sent us on a quest to find out what did actually happen to the apple snails they eat- that's at the link above.
