What inspires you from WFSU Public Media? Here's this week's Voices That Inspire. My name is Gaye Latchmeyer and I'm the Dean of University Libraries at Florida State University. I think libraries are the most exciting place on campus today. When we walk through a library, you can feel students learning. You can see them working together in groups and writing formulas on whiteboards and sharing content from their laptops on a big screen and putting things together. And we know that when students are talking about the ideas they're learning about with their peers, that's really a source of deep learning. So libraries are the most important learning space outside of the classroom today. And it's an exciting environment and something that is so central to education and research. This is Love Data Week and we actually have a YouTube podcast about meet your data librarians where people can learn more about how important data is in research and teaching. We do a number of workshops and this is a week that we highlight and showcase all of those services that we provide so that students are aware of how their librarians can help them manage and store and reuse data. I have been known to stop and talk with various groups and ask them what they think about this particular space or what they would like more in the library. And that's just so rewarding to see how much students appreciate the kinds of services, the kind of learning spaces we provide. My name is Gail Hmeier and I'm the Dean of University Libraries at Florida State University. You're listening to voices that inspire.
