Parenting Counts

Parenting Information You Can Trust

FamilyParenting Counts is a family of educational materials which provide research-based information about how children think, feel, and learn and supports parents with examples of best parenting practices. The project focuses on children from birth to five years of age. WFSU is working on a grant project funded through the Talaris Institute, a Seattle-based, nonprofit organization that advances knowledge of early learning and the importance of parenting in the first years of life.

Focused on bonding, brain development and social-emotional development, Parenting Counts products help parents understand the importance of parenting in the early years. By learning how children think, feel and learn, parents are more capable of helping their children grow in healthy ways. Research tells us that the bond between a parent and child is created in the first five years. This parental bond is the foundation for all learning and the foundation for all relationships developed later in the child's life. That's why Parenting Counts!

Key partners in this project include WSRE, PAEC Migrant Program, Leon County Title I program, and area childcare centers.

The Talaris Institute

Talaris Institue Logo“A lack of affordable, accessible professional training.”

The Talaris Institute is a nonprofit organization with a mission to support parents and caregivers in raising socially and emotionally healthy children. Since our founding in 2000, we have often heard that a lack of affordable and accessible professional training is a significant barrier to advancing the field of early learning and improving outcomes for children.

“Imagine the impact on children and their families if all early childhood professionals had access to high quality, affordable, relevant training.”

Talaris was inspired to eliminate that barrier by developing the Parenting Counts online professional training – the first comprehensive online training focused on the social and emotional development of children from birth to age five.

Talaris has dedicated the past year to creating a dynamic and interactive online professional development program. The goal of the program is to provide early learning professionals with the knowledge and skills to help parents and caregivers raise socially and emotionally healthy children.

The training takes the best of what Talaris has done over the last 11 years, including our videos and content, combines it with the latest research on new topics, and presents it in an engaging, comprehensive online course.

Please watch the short video to learn more about the program’s four pillars of early learning, 25 unique modules, and interactive and engaging methodology.
