Stemming from celebrations of International Women's Day (March 8), Women's History Month is celebrated in March in the United States. It gives us a chance to reflect on the contributions of women to events in histroy and conetemporary society. We've compiled resources that may help you in your lesson planning for this important topic, beginning with the contributions of our own Florida women.

Florida Women

Images of Women’s History in Florida - Florida Memory has gathered a collection of dozens of women who have made a difference in the state of Florida. This collection includes photos and a brief history about each woman.

Roxcy Bolton: A Force for Equality - This collection from Florida Memory is focused on Roxcy Bolton, an equal rights activist from Florida. This collection includes a history of her life and works, letters, and photos.

Florida Commission on the Status of Women - The FCSW was established with the mission of empowering women in Florida. They maintain and facilitate the Florida Women’s Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame, created in 1982, shines a spotlight on Florida women who have made significant contributions to society. Take your class on a trip to the Hall of Fame display in the Florida Capitol or base a Women’s History Month lesson plan around one of these important women.

Local Events (Tallahassee)

Building Legacies: Women’s Leadership Summit - March 3, 2015
To coincide with Women's History Month, TCC is proud to host this half-day event specifically geared toward women in leadership. The program will be a combination of presentations and small group discussions that explore the qualities, characteristics and values that support women reaching their full potential in both their personal and professional lives.

Today’s Woman Conference – Life, Balance, and Wellness - March 14, 2015
Today’s woman wears many hats. She’s an employee, entrepreneur, mother, wife, student, and social activist among other duties. With so much on her plate, sometimes it seems impossible to juggle it all. This conference is designed to pour into the woman who gives out so much.

Women’s History Month Community Luncheon - March 26, 2015
The Oasis Center for Girls and Women, in partnership with the Tallahassee Democrat, honors local women who rewrote history by breaking through barriers and shattering glass ceilings every March. Honorees will be publicly recognized at the Women's History Month Community Luncheon on March 26 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lively Cafe at St. John's Episcopal Church. Each honoree is also featured in an article profiling them in the Tallahassee Democrat throughout the month of March.
