What inspires you from WFSU Public Media? Here's this week's Voices That Inspire. I'm Sally Carrius. I have been on the Faculty of Florida State University for 52 years and have seen some amazing things until I see. When I teach, I have several tenants. I want them to walk away with. I want them to know that they always have to have the reach back phenomena. That by virtue of their sitting in a college classroom no matter how poor they are, et cetera, that's luxurious in the look of the world. They constitute what? One tenth of one half of one percent. By virtue of the fact that they're going to college, I want them to always know that kindness is the very first and most important thing that we do. I want them to know that I will always be there. I want them to know that they're important and stunning and fearless and risk takers, and that they can make a change in the world. It's like if you're going to be offended by something, this isn't the clash for you. Because if we can't talk about it, we can't fix it. What do you think college is for to talk about hard things? And I've never had a kid leave. My inspiration lived in River Falls, Wisconsin, Vera and Austin Peterson. I won the lottery with those parents. They taught me everything about taking care of each other. I've always said if Vera Peterson was walking down the street and River Falls with a pot of hamburger soup, somebody has died and they were on their way to see what they could do. This is Sally Carrieth, Florida State University, and I used to have a tag on my radio show that I had for years was, listen to how I had to. I count you when you come in, and I want the same number when you go out. And that's why we all live until I ask you. You're listening to voices that inspire.
