What inspires you from WFSU Public Media? Here's this week's Voices That Inspire. My name is Tawaii Gakachairo. I am the project director for better universe and citizens at 541-C-3 nonprofit. We conduct environment over in the US and overseas. Our main project is in Haiti, and we call it a Haiti grass project. During the time I was doing research on grasses with the University of Florida, I had seen a lot of pictures and images of flooding in Haiti. You see massive mudslides after hurricanes. And then, also got to know about the erosion situation, a solution to that would be planting perennial grasses. If we planted the grasses on the mountains, that would stabilize the mountains and prevent the washing away of soils. If we can at least reduce the impact of those mudslides, we would go a long way towards saving lives. We pay the Haitians in nominal of $7 a day. And these people are doing great work called as green jobs. So we are providing employment and intent for a work because I have such a passion for nature. And share us that whole idea of seeing that we can reverse problems which we cause as humans in Haiti that resulted in the barren lands. And we can tend that again into sustainable lands that is such a way to cause for me that will keep me going the next day. My name is Tawaii Gakachairo. The organization is called Aetai Universe and Citizens. And this particular project is called the Aetai Grass Project. You're listening to Voices That Inspire.
