Hi! My name is Kai Smith and I am excited to announce that I will be an Education Intern for WFSU PBS KIDS this summer!
I am from Tampa, Florida and am currently working towards Bachelor’s degrees in Sociology and Interdisciplinary Social Science at Florida State University. I’m excited for the lessons this internship will teach me that will help me better understand sociological interactions between federal entities and public education. I enjoy service and volunteering, something this opportunity will offer plenty of. I also bring previous experience in the education sector as a former Teen Play Leader at the Glazer Children’s Museum.
I am a member of multiple on-campus organizations, including Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity, FSU Roller and Ice Hockey Clubs, and The Collective, Florida State’s Sociology club. Throughout my time at FSU, I have gotten to learn so much about the world and myself. This school has provided me with priceless lessons, memories, and connections that makes me proud to be a Seminole.
When I’m not working or in class, you can find me at the gym, listening to countless albums, watching movies at the Askew Student Life Center, or exploring nature in Tallahassee; like my favorite spot Cherokee Sink. Recently, my roommate and I began fostering a dog from Champ’s Chance, a mutt named Bagel, which has been my most recent hobby.
I was raised on a lot of PBS KIDS, with my favorite shows from that era being Dinosaur Train, Sid the Science Kid, and Sesame Street. To be able to give back and support an institution that brings so much value to people throughout their entire lives (including mine) makes me excited for this position and I can’t wait to share those experiences with kids of the new generation.
